Correct Tacho Drive

Forums

Hello again all,

The rebuild of my 1947 Gardengate 40M is proceeding well and I have now reached the stage where I  have to dip into my pocket for a few more bits.

This time I need a Tacho and Tacho drive unit.

I have rotated the engine forwards (ie the direction of the crank if the engine was running - Anticlockwise if looked at and turned via the Primary Drive nut!) and noted that the drive gear for the Tacho rotates Anticlockwise. This is the camshaft drive.

From the various forums I have worked out that I require a 1 : 1 reversing Tacho Drive and a 2 : 1 clockwise Tacho Head.

Is this the correct configuration?

Thanks in advance.

Most Manx’s used a 4:1 Tacho. Whether that was a Chronometric RC95, RC103 depending on whether it was ran off the Cambox or timing cover, one was anti clock and the other clockwise.  The later conical ATRC rev counters were also 4:1.

All with a 2:1 Drive,

Heres a kit I had for a Manx not long back, ive still got a special Manx tach drive with the long shaft for cambox applications.
