Hi I just joined the club having bought my first Norton. It looked great and sounded great, then the right "original" black cap fell off...the fun started. So I 've been trying to replace the system. I bought new black caps from Norvil, these are fine but too quiet so I have bought a set of peashooters. No problem just yet, until I tried to fit the peashooters to the exhaust pipes I bought from Armours. It turned out that the pipes they gave me were two different lengths and the right pipe was too short to take the peashooter. In addition these pipes were not like my originals, despite me sendingArmours pictures of the ones I took off the bike, they sent me pipes withno formed flange at the manifold, justa straight edge which butts up against the manifold gasket. This might be fine if the face of the pipe was square andstraight to seal properly, which it isn't.The balance pipes were out of alignment, regardless of the moving around of the whole system I did to get them to fit. Finally some brute force and exhaust gum got a sealed (ish) set of pipes. I'm tempted to go into a rant about Armours and their attitude, they didn't even call me back when I complained. I called three times, finally got someone to listen but who could not make any decisions and told me to return the pipes but if they have been fitted to the bike we will not refund you....NEVER USE ARMOURS!!! Sorry, I did rant - Thanks or listening. Anyway I'm moving on from them and looking for a supplier who can provide me with goodquality pipes, preferrably with the flange as it seems that seal would be better but happy to take your experienced advice!
I'm afraid that your "ran…

I have been through exactl…
I have been through exactly the same process with Armours, including detailed photographic evidence showing that the product they were selling was not true to type; far from it in fact. Thery continued to claim that their interpretation was correct. I have to say that provided products have not been used, their refund policy is excellent.

Folks, thanks for your rep…
Folks, thanks for your reply, it's good to know I'm not alone but bad to know companies like this get off with it. However, it leaves me wondering who to go to and get a quality product from? All I ant is to talk to someone who will deliver something that works!!

I would say that the best place to get pipes that fit is your friendly local supplier of Andover Norton parts (or mail order if you're not close to one).

I would just like to say that I bought a complete exhaust system for my Commando from RGM Motors about 5 years ago with peashooters, no problems with fitting, however I decided to buy a Triumph T100r Daytona for a second bike that had the exhaust changed by the previous owner , the kick start used to snag the silencer when starting the bike , to cut a long story short I had to change the complete system that ended up expensive from Tri supply, but at least there were no more problems. As it turned out the previous exhaust that was only about 1year old had the wrong bend angle on the down pipes, this was from Armours.

I bought mine about 15 years ago from Norman White. He had them specially made for himself because at the time, the ones Andover were supplying him with did not fit properly. I would expect Andover have sorted this out by now.

Hi Iain,
Yourexperience with Armours is exactly what we, in the colonies, experience. The only difference is the postal costs are more than the cost of the parts. Items picked up from their shop while visiting the U.K. always fit perfectly.
regards Ian

This now seems to be the norm of Armours, I got my peashooters from them over 10 years ago, they fit well, have excellent chrome and sound nice. I have heard lots of complaints recently, as people are surprised that my silencers come from them. Just after I got mine I think he was retiring or selling up, maybe this is the cause of the demise of this once superb company.
Personally, I would give them a chance and ask them to remedy the issue by supplying correct ones informing them that if this fails a nice letter will be sent to OBM / Classic Bike etc explaining the situation that you have experienced - it might have the desired affect.

Hi Ian, Well done for brin…
Hi Ian,
Well done for bringing this shocking customer service to light !
It makes me boil when so called"experts" take your money and couldnt give a toss if you have a problem with their products.
Name and shame, thats my policy, if they dont get a grip of after sales service then they deserve to go bust !
Regards,
Paul.

I'm afraid that your "rant" about Armours is just a copy of so many others! Their reputation when it comes to customer service and aftersales is legendary. If you complain about a product from them, then its you and your bike that is flawed! I am saying this based on 3-4 first hand experiences and at least triplethat from fellow enthusiasts. So I will join you in a recommandation to stay away from Armours. If you have to use them, then drive down there with your bike and see if the parts fit. (Note to legal department: This is of course just my personal opinion and does not in any represent the NOC or any other organisation)
