The clutch on my 99 was acting up on the way back from Coolins car/bike event. Most unusual as its been perfect for many years. I first found 3 of the plain plates with the tangs well bruised and the nut slightly loose. A set of new plates and locktite should put all right. Looking at the drum it would appear that there may be space for a 5th pair of plates (perhaps its a 650 drum) , Appart from the (99) spring studs being a little short it would appear that no other changes except for perhaps an additional ball or roller in the pushrod system will be needed. Anyone tried this ? will another plate mean I can back off the springs and get a lighter clutch ,interesting.

Nope, that did not work. I must have been working on too many 750 clutches (which fill the basket ) , The 99 clutch has plenty of space for new thicker plates . Now to check the alternator and ignition/cam timing while its accessable.
