Chain wax

My lads with modern bikes use wax and other products, can't say I am Impressed. The chains rapidly develop rust, tight links and its messy stuff. One now uses an expensive automatic oiler with astonishing success,a clean chain and no wear or adjustment on an MT09 monster.I am flirting with a beautifully kept Big Honda Firestorm that came with a waxed but dry chain seemingly in good tight  adjustment. I lubed the chain with EP90 and after a 3 mile run the chain was ratling on the exhaust and needed lots of adjusting after the tight links sorted themselves out.Honda  recommend EP90 oil.I won't be buying any wax. Its not a lubricant or any good to cool a hot chain.

Don't forget, Richard, that part of the reason for having an oil bath for the chain to dip into is to cool the clutch. No oil = no cool, and we all know what happens to a Norton clutch when it gets hot......

My 99 leaks so little oil that observers comment that  it must be empty, or belt drive. It was not always so. Trial and error and no bathroom sealant has found a way.

...in addition to Georges remarks, unless you've somehow fitted a sealed bearing, the clutch release bearing relies on the oil bath too..

I have made a number of small changes to achieve a workable case. The first thing to do is use different colour oils in engine,box and case to pinpoint where its leaking from. Engine oil is mostly brown, EP 90 box oil is green and smells very different, I used ATF in the primary for a while which was red, I now use 10/40 cheap multigrade in the primary as ATF is not ideal.
