Bremen 2014

The advance party for the International Rally arrived in Bremen yesterday afternoon. Kev Feltoe's Model 77 combination was astill there behind his car when we arrived and Tony Ripley bravely piloted the NOC Club van across Holland and Northern Germany to the rally site.

Yesterday evening saw the rally organising team undertake the mammoth task of preparing the rally bags and starting this morning at 08.00 the main tent will be going up.

Chris and Jenny Harvey arrived yesterday as well to help with the organisation and we expect the first few attendees to be arriving as early as this afternoon. The weather looks as if it will remain reasonably fine for setting up but there will be some showers of rain during the rally itself.

It's all over now here in Bremen on Monday morning and the remaining rally attendees are appearing out of their tents and campers, getting ready to leave.

The Saturday river trip and buffet meal on the Weser was a great success and many people enjoyed the visit yesterday to the steam railway. The rally finished last night with a barbecue meal at a local restaurant and it looks as if the whole event was enjoyed by most of those who came.

Look out on this web site for an announcement around the beginning of September confirming the location of the International Rally for 2015.

Hello Chris,

I arrived home in the North East on Tuesday morning from the rally in Bremen. Had another fantstic time over there and I would like to thank everyone in the Bremen branch for putting on another great event. I wondered if anyone had the email address for Hans from the Hampshire branch as he gave me his email address but my attempts just keep bouncing back. I hope everyone else made it back safe and I look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Regards,

Pete Austin

I'll e-mail Hans's e-mail address to PeteWebmaster

We agree! It was a great rally and the Bremen Branch AND ALL THE HELPERS (there were many*) deserve huge thanks, it was a superb event with loads of top class attractions and excursions to make the rally thoroughly enjoyable. We had a brilliant time and shows what an International Rally should be (as many of the overseas IRs do). *The Bremen Branch drafted in many helpers (some of which were nothing to do with the NOC!) and they were all friendly and very helpful. Going to an International Rally is like going to a party with 100 of your best mates and finding another 50 plus people there who you make friends with as well. And how refreshing to see so many young faces there - superb!

Hello Everyone,

During a very enjoyable few days with the NOC in Bremen I discussed with Chris Grimett and Kevin Feltoe what the future might be like for the NOC as a whole. I said that I was worried that although, with the right care and supply of parts, the bikes will go on for some time, butwe the riders were not going to be so fortunate! I said that I thought we had to look to be more inclusive in our approach to all Norton rallys in an attempt to make them much more familly orientated. This I hoped would get the children and grand children interested in Norton's at an early age and the example I gave was that in my experience, when your Father took you to your first football match, this is the team you ended up supporting for the rest of your life! (unfortunately in my case it was Middlesbrough, doh!). The point I was trying to get across was that we need new members to survive, and unfortunately the new Nortons are unlikely to result in a flood of new riders clamoring to become card carrying members of the NOC. The Rally at Bremen was very good and I had a great time and my thanks go to Bernd, Hans, and all the helpers who made it such a good event. It was held in a good location and I have no doubt that if anyone had been lucky enough to bring their family with them then it would have beenpossible to find the kids something fun for them to do whileDad/Grandad was out on the rides or talking bikes in the beer tent. However, I think we could do more to accomodate other people who may not be the more typlicle NOC member and I think the NOC Commitee need to start thinking of how we can use the International and other events to help secure the clubs future and perhaps start advising and supprtingthe event organisers to help achieve this. This is just my suggestion and I hope it might act as a platform to open the way for more people to put forward their ideas on how we can take the NOC and our beloved bikes into the 21st century with a secure future.

Any thoughts or comments, in support or otherwise, would be gratefully received.

Hallo friends! I am touched by your comments! Yes indeed, we tried hard to welcome you in Bremen and I must say it was a big success. The best was the moment when it started raining in the market place and all bikes were standing in stoic manner whereas people were hurrying for shelter!

Peter: My email goes like this: granheitmann@t-online.de

As it looks the date for the 2015 Int.rally doesn't fit into the Lower Saxony holidays period. So I have to give it a miss....

Thank you all for your company, it was a pleasure to have had you here!

Best wishes

Hans

Hello Benoit & Marie,

I'm gald to hear that you all made it home safe. I've just heard that the 2015 International rally will be in Ireland! So I look forward to sharing a few pints of Guinness with you both next year.

Pete Austin
