Alternator stator fitting.

Forums

I have just been reading the Maintenance manual for my ES2. In it it states that the alternator stator leads should face outwards to the outer cover....then says the stator is capable of being fitted into the spigot recess either way round, BUT IT WILL ONLY OPERATE SATISFACTORILY IN ONE POSITION.

Now is this because it protects the lead from the chain or does it work better electrically? I can't see the latter as it is just an ac output. Unless the rotation matters?

The bike is still 6v on the original 3 wire alternator in very nice condition.

6V 3 wire or 12V 2 wire, the stator can be fitted either way. Yes if the chain destroys the cables to it it won't work! But it is absolutely NOT concerned which way it fits to the bike or rotor.
