Age related number

Somewhere along the line dvla need proof those numbers you put on the form actually exist on the bike. Some years back when I did mine you mot it on frame number and that got it on the system. Still had to turn up with bike at local office to get reg number .local offices no longer exist but understand they need to be careful issuing reg as there are plenty of crooks who would like to pass off our stolen bikes.

Contact DVLA.  They say that you need to provide MOT to register (re-register) and old vehicle, but as you've found they don't say what to do if it is MOT exempt.  But they do say that they might need to inspect it.

If it is roadworthy you should be able to MOT it anyway (it's not a bad thing to do) and then proceed as they say.

One of my bike's PO restored the bike totally (over 10-12 years) before registering it when it was ready.

I recently did this and on the V55 in tax class I wrote Historic and completed a V112 exemption from MOT included with the application. V5 back in 10 days. I agree an MOT is a good idea for peace of mind but no longer a requirement to get the registration done. Paul.

I was granted an age related plate with the help of the Douglas Owners club end of last year and another granted with the help of the Royal Enfield Owners club this year, and if I am honest it's a minefield. The two clubs had different ways of doing it so one should contact the club according to your machine make. and ask for advice.
