Hello Everyone
Does anyone have a knackered starter motor for a Mk3 they will let me have in exchange for beer tokens. I missed out on on on Ebay a little while ago.I know this really should be in the wanted ads but I should explain that I,m wanting it to practice converting one to rolling element bearings and be proficent at the four coil/brush conversion which is not easy to do. The current motor I have fitted to my Mk3 is a hybrid of mostly Norton bits (rotor, end caps) with a Harley stator. This works great but the rotor is still stiff to turn (because of the bush bearings) and I,m sure roller bearings will improve this. Also the harley stator I.D. is different to the norton end caps so it is not a straight swap. I have modified the drive gear by sleeving it with a hardened steel sleeve (ala the Ken Merrick mod but using interferance fits to retain the sleeve, i.e.not relying on loctite to glue the parts together) to reduce the clearances in the spragg to stop it flipping and this works a treat.

Good idea. I used some needle bearings, she starts like a breeze every time.
