69 Commando.New chain binding?

Forums

Just fitted new DID 5/8"x3/8" Chain to the bike.

Rear sprocket looks in ok order

Adjusters set evenly both sides so should be in the right ball park

Chain play about 1.5" play maybe a bit more

Chain sounds like it is catching/snagging slightly somewhere on or near the front gearbox sprocket when you spin the wheel both clockwise and anti-clockwise

Any initial ideas? I could refit the old one and check if I am getting the same issue.

Thanks

The joint link is thicker on one side, turning around may fix the problem. DID are normally one of the thinner chains so should work.

... but if I fit the split link on my 52 ES2 from the "outside" ie the normal way, it just kisses the back of the primary chaincase. Fitting from the ouher side - slightly tricky as working through the spokes - cures it as suggested by John.

John may have the solution; I certainly hope so.

For what it's worth, I always use Renold chains: Same size on my Commando and 650ss with no issues.

Good idea. I'll see if it is related to the link snagging

I thought it was worth a punt at £25 delivered from Classic Bike Shop. Reduced the 101 links down to 98 to fit the 69 Commando as that was the nearest length they had in stock.

Still took quite a few turns on the threads to get it tensioned.

Thanks

Eddie
