Hello from across the pond in what I like to Fort NORTONdale FL
I just came in possession of a 1955 Dominator in many pieces. Seems all the pieces are there in boxs or loose
except for Mudguards. Does anyone have a suggestion as to whereI maybe able to locate a pair?
thank you and best regards, Chris

Hi Chris,
If your bike is a 1955 model you will have great difficulty in getting the correct rear mudguard, it is a unique part to 1955 and extremely rarethough you should have less trouble with the front as this is fairly standard and repros are available through the club (and earlier style rear's).
It may not help but the factory part numbers are;
K12/529 model 7 front
H12-2/529 model 88 front
K12/534 model 7 rear
K12-2/534 model 88 rear
The correct rear mudguard is a little over 7" wide and looks odd compared with earlier and later items, it is such a distinctive part. If your frame has a 'K' prefix then it is the 1955 model but if it is 'L' then that is 1956 model making it a little easier.
If your bike is a 55 model 7 I may be able to help with pictures of parts.
Good Luck
James

Dear James & Chris, I…
Dear James & Chris,
I recently submitted the text below on the Norton Singles webpages:-
"I recently inherited a very well looked after 1960 (manufactured 1959) ES2. The black rear mudguard is 6" wide and valanced with an attachment at the rear which can be removed to facilitate withdrawal of the wheel from the swinging arm.
With the bike came an absolutely unused 6" wide very deeply valanced (6" versus circa 5" of the ES2) , undrilledblack rear mudguard forming the complete arc of curvature. In other words it is just like the ES2 mudguard, although more deeply valanced, but manufactured without a separate extension piece.
I assume that it is from either an earlier model ES2 or 50 or perhaps from an early heavy twin. I have looked at various photos of these models but cannot come up with a definitive answer as to what machine it could belong to.
Any members who can throw some light on this?
I can send photos to anyone who has more experience of the earlier models.
I have owned 650SS & Inter for many years: the ES2 is my first OHV single."

I'm willing to sell it for a good offer but was considering putting it on E-Bay in the next two weeks as it is surplus to my requirements and taking up space.

Thank you all! It does app…
Thank you all!It does appear this is an assemblage of various parts and was not an actual complete M/C.
A father son project that gathered many pieces but never put together. son immigrated to US
with all the parts and after moving them about the country for a few years decided to find a
loving home for them.. ME )
Digging into the vast amount of literature provided with the M/C all the references are to it
mostly being a 1956 - 99 model.
A few Northern Calif Norton owners said NOC sold fenders in the spares scheme, one said he
did purchase a set from NOC. I don't see see them, am I missing something?
Did find a front at Burton's Bike Bits and will order soon if something else doesn't turn up.
Peter, I would like to see that spare fender you have. besides the 99 I also have a ES2 in need.
again, thank you all for the input, guess I'll have to turn on the cell phone for international ringing.
BEST REGARDS! Chris

Dear Chris,
If you would like to e-mail me with your personal e-mail address then I can send you photos of the mudguard (you call them fenders).I would imagine however that freight to the USA would be prohibitively expensive.

Another fact peculiar to t…
Another fact peculiar to the rear for 1955is that it had a hinged tail section, as opposed to the later detachable section. I know Fred Williams personally and he won't make a rear mudguard of either type! They are far too time consuming. He told me he made a good repro of the later type years ago, with the proper rolled-on side valances - which is why he doesn't want to make another one! He makes good front mudguards though for several different Nortons.
I lent Peter from Renovation Spares, my original 1959 'guard, with the hinged section, for a while and I know that he used to make copies. The last number I had for him is 01527 543 796 - he advertised regularly in Old Bike Mart but I haven't seen an advert lately. I believe the later version will fit the 1955 but no good if you want Concours! Neil of the NOC spares used to have some of these made too. I was lucky to buy a very good repro from "Bantam John" of all people a few years ago at a Netley Marsh bike jumble - on my doorstep near Southampton! My 99's Concours restoration will need chrome guards and the original is too badly rusted for that. For chrome you need an undented and carefully made item. Some people were too careless when grinding off welds on some I've seen!
Good luck finding these "hen's teeth" !
Cheers, Lionel

Silly mistake in my text above! Of course I meant DETACHABLE tail section, not hinged like my 1955 bike! Sorry!
