Hi Guys - What's the consensus of what we should do with our prized possessions for the next 3 or 4 months? Obviously drain out the oil to obviaye wet-sumping bu what about the fule tank?
If it's drained it will get condensation. If it's left full (of E5) it will presumably do it (and the carb) a power of no good?
Any views?

Sounds good, Robert, but I'm not sure Esso Synergy is available in Cornwall. Anyway, is that considered an "essential" trip?

Lay up.
I filled the tank of my BMW CS100 brimful June 2019 to guard against condensation. For several reasons including health it hasn't been ridden since, the battery is on a maintenance charger and in that time it has been started twice, the last time being two weeks ago. The bike started readily it ran for ten minutes after which I turned the fuel off and let it drain the carb's. I'm at a bit of a loss to understand the problems people have with modern petrol, old or new, I find it makes little if any difference. Although having said that, on one occasion my Electra which I run on "cooking" petrol had super unleaded for the BMW put in the tank and in 50 miles it destroyed the tank liner, which, only having owned the bike for a week I was unaware of, this is the only problem modern petrol has ever caused me.

After a while the ethanol…
After a while the ethanol becomes saturated with moisture and it drops out and turns acidic and eats holes in the bottom of your alloy carb and tank. The Esso fuel contains no ethanol (not in my area!) although it may have an EO5 sticker on the pump.(garage attendants are just told to sticker the pumps!) What damage is occurring to the millions of car injection systems ,who knows,? Who cares?.I got a nasty shock when it dissolved our Merc fuel filler pipe . 3 gallons on the floor. You too can be an unbeliever ,till you get the hit.

Drain it ,put the gas in the car. Buy some Esso Synergy plus, add some two stroke oil and slosh around ,run the motor, Leave in the tank. put a strip of masking tape over the vent. Check regularly for leaking taps etc.release any pressure if it gets really hot or you move the bike around.
