Navigator Carburettor Alternatives

I have a Navigator which, at some point in its past, has been converted to 250cc.  Over the coming months I'll be returning it to 350cc and will need to replace the existing carb, which is correct for a Jubilee (Amal 375/43) but not for a Navigator (should be 375/48).  

A new Amal from Burlen is a whopping £275, ouch!  Aside from second hand units and refurbs are there any new carbs that would suit?  Has anyone out there had success with an alternative to the 375/48?

Talk to me please about concentrics, Wassel, PWK etc.etc.! I'm sure I'm not the first one to hit this bump!

I couldn’t get a concentric to work on my Jubilee, dont know about the Navigator, but I think I was quoted for a properly jetted Mikuni from Motocarb or Allens performance if you can bear the idea of a jap carb!  Mikunis are about £200 I think. I recently bought a Lectron for my Yamaha, that was £600…. Ouch!  If I were you I’d buy the proper monoblock, I’ve never regretted buying a new proper carb!

Agree with Robert Tuck. Auto Jumbles are a great source of spares.

Dont worry about the -48 of "375/48" - it refers to the factory build for a certain bike - so a 375/47 would also be a nice find, as that was for the DeLux (faired-in) Navigator. An Electra carb (375/54?) would also be suitable - but the main jet size would need checking.

You need to find a 375 Carb with a choke size of 7/8" - that is the important bit. All the other bits (throttle bodies, jets, etc) can still be supplied

If a worn monobloc is to be refurbished does that mean resleeving (the slide bore) and fitting a new slide? 

Had a quick look on the net, could not find anyone offering this service, anyone know if this service is still being offered?

The nearest I have got to doing this was with a 389 monobloc, earlier carbs of this size had a thicker wall thickness so could be bored to remove the wear, I then made an oversize brass slide.  A bit of a faff to do but the carb was knackered and money was tight. Improved things somewhat but not the spectacular improvement I hoped for!

Don't know if the wall thickness comment applies to other size monoblocs.

Buying a new (monobloc) carb would be my favoured way forward now.

Sleeving the carb body so a new slide would fit was also a "thing" at one time, my googling didn't find anyone offering this now.
