I have a kickstart shaft oil seal leek and I canât find a picture of exactly where it goes . I have taken the outside cover off to have a look and I now assume itâs behind the middle cover . I have purchased the John Hudson dvd and itâs helpful but more so for the AMC . In the drawings I can find it looks like a flat cork washer would be at the base of the kickstart shaft and also I can see two groves in the shaft . I have the new type x seal and I was planning on having a look but would be very grateful of any extra information and just to be clear the gearbox is in the bike

The attached photo shows a cork gasket on the upper of the two kickstart shafts depicted. It sits in a recess that you can just see in the neck of the bush, in principle to stop oil flowing along the shaft. Original part no A2/355 but I've never seen them offered, I cut my own with a home made die using 2mm cork sheet. I doubt if any sealing properties last for long,a more effective remedy is to carefully enlarge the outer of the two grooves on the shaft andfit a thin O-ring, I found that stopped all leaks from that area.Hope this helps.
