Another probing technical question! There is a method in my madness honest. All of your answers are helping me make my decisions so thanks in advance! Still considering putting my Manx chassis on the road, maybe with a freshly build 650SS motor. All new parts.
Could a 4LS Manx hub be used on a road going version of a period bike in terms of type approval and MOT, or are the huge scoops going to fall foul of the 3in radius rule?
Anyone had any experience at all.
Cheers,
Al

Are you talking about the scoop sticking out, like a sharp-edge situation, I think you have to be careful for the Primary vehicle inspection appointment for registration. Also pick an MOT station that isn't super picky!
Has the frame got a number? Some guys was manufacturing Manx replicas for the road some years ago, not Andy Molnar, but someone else up north.
Is the 3" radius to do with the Air-scoop dimensions? From centre to outer edge.
Frame makers may tell you it is not a problem to get the machine registered but that is not true and it is much better and saves a lot of hassle if you use a second-hand road frame and start from there with your special.

As you are going to use the bike on the road a standard 2LS will be more useable. I can't see that 'type approval' or the 'MOT' have anything to do with a choice, and I have no idea what a '3 inch radius rule is" (please tell us).
I think a bigger concern is that if that frame is not already registered then what you build will be a 'special' and possibly not eligible for an historic (3 digits plus 3 letters) registration, and in 'Q' plate territory. You should speak to Chris Streather on the phone and see what he says.
