When did you last change the primary or box oil?. I put a Dymo label on the speedo to remind me of the mileage I should change the engine oil, but the primary ? ,The need to take the leak free case off to do the job is offputing , and who wants to grovel around under an oily gearbox to find the drain plug ?. Can you do a fair job on the primary without removal of the case ?
Once a Year
...whether it needs it or not...a bit like people use to take baths.
My only exception is with the early Doll's Head as it has no drain plug so changing the oil means cracking the cover open....It's pretty much total loss though so I don't think there is much old oil in there.

Primary chaincase oil change
I have attached a photo of the syringe and tube I use. If the oil is warm I reckon I get over 80% of the oil out. Leave it a few days and the rest of the oil has probably dripped out. If you know somebody dealing with medical stuff you'll be able to get hold of the bits.

Good idea Jonathan...
.. as I have a leakproof chaincase I'd rather not disturb it. Those syringes are widely available eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50ML-Plastic-Syringe-W-100cm-Length-Tube-for-Hydroponics-Nutrient-Measuring-UK/133616299370?hash=item1f1c26ed6a:g:k7gAAOSwDgtf5DwL

My car is one of those that has no sump plug - oil changes require oil to be sucked out of the dipstick tube. I use the same oil sucker kit on the primary through the inspection hole. As to gearbox, it requires lying on your back and working from underneath. Amazing that cars have sealed for life (meaning 150,000+ miles) gearboxes yet our old clunkers are on a yearly change rota.
