Indicator/turn signal switch

Forums

I am a way from needing this part, but I am going to need an indicator switch for my Elactra. Searches for part number do not seem to reveal anything, and I have no idea what the switch even looks like. Any information would be gratefully received.

Another thing I was wondering about is what to use for a flasher unit? The usual autoparts store ones which work on most bikes need two indicators, back and front, to work, and we all know what happens when a bulb burns out. The electra, with its handlebar mounted indicators, only has one bulb, expected to be seen from both back and front. Was the flasher unit special? If all else fails, maybe a resistor in series with the bulb would make a cheapo autoparts flasher work.

Can't help with the flasher switch. ON my Electra I have the chance of fitting the bar end winkers but then I loose the bar end mirror and I can't 'chuck the bike against the garage wall-have not fitted indicators!

As for a flasher unit, the basic ones work on wattage, I expect you will have a10W bulb in each side so you will need unit for 10W but then there is units especially for the new LED indicators, I expect one of these would work.

Just a thought.........

The bar end winkers were made by Hella, I'll bet any bike parts supplier that sells /2 BMW parts would stock the correct flasher unit. I used to have a '66 R60/2 with the Hella bar end blinkers and got my flasher unit over here (in the USA) from Bench Mark Works, I assume anyone in the UK who deals in 1950-1960 BMW cycles could help.

I owned an Electra for a very short time, I am sure the handlebar switch was a Wipac one. Maybe a post in the lightweight twins post may also help with this?

If find you need to fit another bulb to get the correct flash rate, just install one where it will operate but can't seen- behind headlamp reflector / tool box / any recess.
