Forums

Last day of summer, broke down on the back road from Weston Super Mud,backfire, chug, chug BANG  stop. A rest, and lo! it starts. Repeat several times then = S.O.S rescue. At home see that double  bullet connector has wire broken. Aha! repair and launch forth, lgnition light that has not been going out gradually goes out albeit at higher revs. Try 35 Watt running light as well , disaster! Surge of bright orange ignition  light and before you can say backfire im back to S.O.S rescue people  and home. Send to Tri Cor Andy for new Regulator and  Trip to Andover  and on advice,  go for  new A.G.M Motobat .   Upshot is Ziltch, Peeled back Ignition Condom and with Circuit tester find there is power at all the connections. That is as far as my skills go from there sticking circuit tester in surrounding Bullet connectors= nothing Possible that I misconnected the Double all red  connector. Would it burst into flames if I experimented?  All advice welcome, Thanks

Several issues here, the first appear to be a flat battery, this is shown by bike stopping then restarting, then trying running light, stops engine-flat battery. Recharge battery and engine must run properly unless another fault in ignition? Points-Electronic?
The fitting of NEW battery and regulator-not necessarily the full answer, A New battery can be flat in minutes if it is poorly to start with. New regulator is NOT a good idea unless you check out your alternator first and prove your first reg is faulty. The buying of parts without ascertaining the correct faulty part will just cost you money and time and frustration. Do not do it.
The Double RED should be the earth connectors, but who knows what the wiring is after 50yrs??
I do not agree Paul, a wire coming apart could cause this-FIND the fault, before spending money.
