Brake pad rattle

does anyone have any ideas on how to stop the brake pads rattling on thestandard front brakelockheed caliper? thanks, Ralph

Hi Ralph,

When you mean 'rattle' is the slight movement you can feel be jiggling the pads tab at the bottom. If so this is normal, If one moves and the other does not, or the rattling pads can be detected when braking, I would suggest it is time for a caliper rebuild. Easy enough job, made easier if you have an old set of pads with the tab removed as they can be used to aid removing / inserting the pistons.

On the Lockheed race caliper, with the squarish pads, I cured it by applying a thin layer of black car glass glue (glues windows to car bodies) to the sides that are in contact with the brake body. I filed a wee bit of material away first and degreased thouroughly. Will be trickier on round pads I guess.
