1975 850 Mk 111 e/s breather

Forums

Could anyone please tell me where the breather from the rear of the timing cover should be routed? When I began restoration the breather was directed towards the drive chain, as , I guess some sort of oiler, but in diagrams I have seen, the pipe returns to the oil tank.

Some clarification would be a great help.

Hi Ray,

I presume you mean the large diameter pipe coming off from where a magneto would have been many years and models ago.

Do you still have the black box air filter ?

If so the pipe will route from the timing cover, under the air filter just to the left of the right air inlet, then it goes up the gap between the black box, the battery and the oil tank. It then goes backwards and connects on to the pipe coming out from just in front of the filler cap.

The MkIII does not have a chain oiler.

The tank breather goes to a thing called the oil separator on the left hand side of the air box. This then has a small pipe going to the carb manifold balance pipe.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Tony
