Bournemouth Branch
There will be quite a few members of the local Bournemouth Branch attending. We should be riding in about 10.15. The local DocBike team which is the charity we support will also be there.

What a great day, only…
What a great day, only spoiled by a White Toyota Van. Thank you so much to everyone that helped. I exclude the RAC form those thanks - having made me wait for 4 hours - they called me to tell me that they wouldn't recover me as I had been in an accident, this is despite me making that clear by ticking the box in their on line call service. They'll be getting a formal complaint but be warned.
In the end I managed to ride the bike back, I reckon I now know what its like to ride with girders!

Alan thank you for your all help, you went way beyond! I got home safety but exhausted (all that adrenaline I think!) I stole the forks from my trials bike so I could ride in the Exeter Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, I finished at 9.30pm on Saturday evening - sorting out the headlight wiring took the longest, the Lucas light switch didn't like being banged!

Woken up today with a swollen thumb and sore knee - thinking myself very lucky, and grateful that I was wearing Forcefield body armour. Off to check out the damage now, hopefully the new stanchions will arrive today.

Sorry to hear you were in a collision, Dan. I was tempted to join you but it would have involved dog walking at an hour I don't often see post retirement. Hope you are recovering from what sounds like minor injuries. I will give you a ring and drop in when we next find a minute.

Ok here we go - despite the…
Ok here we go - despite the RAC accepting my call some 5 hours later they advised me that they were not going to recover me and referrred me to my insurer, now I have 10 bikes bad 3 insurers, I was pretty sure that FJ were my insurers - I remember renewing recently, I didn't have any details so called I them, I was put on hold and eventually passed to their claims department - long time on hold again to be told I was insured by Markel International, but didn't have any contact details - this meant northing to me so I thanked them and started again, more time on hold and my phone battery was going flat, eventually got to a really helpful bloke who identified that I was about to be insured but not until the 24th. He couldn't explain why, and I couldn't remember. Anyway after much discussion I asked to bring the start date forward to make sure I hadn't overlooked my renewals or made a mistake with the dates. When I got home (actually it came to me as I was riding home). I remembered that this bike was insured with Hagerty and it did indeed run out on the 24th. What I didn't know was that it was underwritten by Markel Int so the first guy was correct. By this time my battery had gone flat and Allan kindly went back to his hotel for a power pack. Ok so here are the lessons for me for the future
1. Check if your breakdown service provider covers accidents
2. If it doesn't speak to your insurers and find out how to arrange recovery and put this in your phone contacts
3. Also record this on paper and put it in your wallet, your battery may go flat or your phone be damaged. My IPhone escaped birth my pocket and its case in the accident and was found naked under the van - miraculously still working!
4 Make sure Paul Smith is there to help you get to your destination and Alan Sessions to help with the calls!
5. If your insurers dont provide a recovery service find out how to order it yourself and claim back the cost later.
I think that covers it!

I spent 20mins on the phone (I recorded it) speaking to the RAC last Saturday about recovery in your situation. Having looked at my RAC policy, it says they may recover you - I was trying to get the exact circumstances as to why or why not they might attend. Eventually a manager said he could go no further & said I should call Breakdown Customer Care (closed at weekends) - I haven't had time to do that yet. I think Dan's case is an excellent scenario to lay before the breakdown organisations - it was pretty frustrating for him at the time. Alan

nothing new ,just thinking if you could put the info required in/on a static QR code and keep it on a key ring to help in moments of none clarity. for you or some one else to scan. i have got one of those usb types with required info on it. i have put QR code in photo

A little more info -
I did have a battery pack but as I had been using the sat nav it was nearly flat! - mind you mine is a 12v battery so I could possibly have rigged something.
When I was thrown off, my phone came out of my pocket, shed its protective case and ended up under the van! But by some miracle it was/is still working - but it would be sensible to be prepared to be phoneless, having something on paper as well would be a good idea so you can borrow someone else's!
I had a messenger exchange with the RAC - like Alan they were nor really forthcoming, I have therefore escalated this into a formal complaint - they have acknowledged it, I will share their reply in due course.
Finally remember you might be hurt and upset so simplicity would be helpful.
