Dominator chrome tank panels

I was wiping some old glue from the lovely chrome tank panels on my '57 Dominator, using paper towel and petrol.

I noticed that the areas I had wiped no longer had the beautiful high gloss finish.

I think that the paper towel contained fine sand which scratched the surface.
Does anyone have any idea how I can recover the original finish?

… leave a few mins then re wipe with clean dry cloth.  If it is dissolved by the petroleum constituent of WD then you know what to do. .  Once all debris is dissolved clean down with alcohol or meths wipes and leave to dry.it should now be gleaming. Finish with Silvio wadding to make it shine and protected.

Some paper towels are abraisive ,which is why you should never use paper on plastic lens glasses. Good old fashioned chrome with a decent depth is  hard and not so easy to scratch . Also several coatings of proper wax polish are protective and resist scuffs  and water penetration .
