Some paper towels are abraisive ,which is why you should never use paper on plastic lens glasses. Good old fashioned chrome with a decent depth is hard and not so easy to scratch . Also several coatings of proper wax polish are protective and resist scuffs and water penetration .

Once all debris is dissolved clean down with alcohol or meths wipes and leave to dry.it should now be gleaming. Finish with Silvio wadding to make it shine and protected.
