Hi all,
I'm having diffeculty removing the front isolastic to give it a clean up and check the adjustment - this the first time I've tried to do this!
I have the bike up on a bike lift (not the bike stand) and removed the main center bolt (leaving the top and bottom frame mounts in place), the manual then says slide back the gaiter and remove the collar and plasticwasher - I can't get mine out!
They move a bit towards the back of the bike, but then stop, even when I try a drift. They look OK and clean, so not corroded.
The bike is a '72 Roadster, but has the vernier adjuster on the front, not shims.
Any ideas?
Thanks - Paul.

I was told that one and a half hole spacings equal 0.010" - so what I did was to tighten until I could no longer rotate the edges of both PTFE washers with a pick, when that occured I backed off one and a half hole distance to give me the 10 thou', then torqued up the end end nut - job done.

You can't remove the collar and ptfe washer with the vernier type isolastics as the centre tube is one piece and the collar is screwed onto it to achieve the adjustment. On the old type the centre tube is made up of a series of parts, two collars and two rubber bushes (with steel center sleeves) and a spacer if my memory is correct. You would have to measure the play in the gap beteen the collar and the ptfe washer then dismantle the collar and shim cup and fit new shims to get the desired gap, originally ten thou ( 0.010inch) but less if you wanted a more precise ride. With the vernier system, you slacken the through bolt, tighten the collar on the RH side then back it off to achieve the required clearance. Again, from memory I think 1/4 turn will give you about ten thou. Then nip the whole lot up to 25ft/lbs. If you are lucky your wheels might still line up!!
