16h rear brake arm

the model is a 16h. About 1940 but not sure. I would like to know what is needed to join the brake rod to the foot brake. Seems to be 2 pieces, a part that screws onto the rod and also the pin part. Can anyone please help? Also on the front brake the actual brake lever on the hub is too far from the end of the cable. How can I fix this?

Pre- and post-war rigid Nortons used a clevis at the front and a large wing nut with a bullnose to act as a detent on the rear operating arm. However, when military panniers were fitted, they made the adjuster inaccessible so a knurled threaded adjuster was fitted at the front. It's only necessary if fixed panniers are fitted.

The original wing nuts and rod are threaded 9/32 x 26 tpi. The chances of finding either are slim. Best bet in North America is probably to see what is available in 1/4" UNF from an engineering supplier.

If your front brake cable with integral adjuster will not reach the hub lever then it's likely the cable is not correct. There is no adjustment on the arm, but of course new shoes will make the problem worse. I've never had much success with commercial cables so now make my own.
