57 Model 50 Timing case drain

It's a small pipe that vents to the atmosphere, on my '57 ES2 it comes down and passes the inside of the of the lower frame tube, i have not seen any oil come from it.

My '55 ES2 has the same. I got fed up with it dripping so fitted an old plastic pill container to it to catch the drips. It fills up about evry hundred miles or so and I then pour t back into the oil tank. I wrapped the container in silver tape so it doesn't look too out of place.

The oil that drips is the overflow from that which migrates through the inlet camshaft bush for the purpose of lubricating the timing chain.

What they call a "total loss" system!

If it helps, Dan, the part nos. are A2/10 - drain pipe with nut and A2/11 pipe union (screws into timing chain cover).

If it it dripping that much, then it it time to change the bush in the timing cover.

I did renew the bush (twice) but I think the fault lies in my crude attempts at reaming. I've decided to live with it.
