I am tired of looking at the concentric carbs on my 88SS and am thinking of replacing them with shiny new monoblocs. (I know this will probably open a costly can of worms....)
My concentrics have nice smooth chromed slides. I played with various slide cutaways by adjusting an unplated slide with a file and with only one carb fitted, and then bought the pair of relatively costly slides. I see the current option is hard anodised, which I suspect are not standard in new monoblocs, so they'll cost £45 each on top of the carb price (I need to check this is true). Obviously I want to make sure they are the right ones first!
Does anyone have experience of having to change the original specification slides, before I make a mistake here?
Like everyone, I have more time to play in the shed than to use the machine...
I will be following this…

I will be following this with interest David as I intend to buy a new mono for my 99. It currently runs a chromed slide which I find exellent. My issue is with body wear that affects the pick up off the pilot.. My efforts to solve the weak spot after trying everything else culminated in me "improving" the by-pass drillings. At that time I did not realise that the bypass can supply both fuel and air and its function changes with the depression. Bad move.
