1949 Norton ES2 500 Ashcott

For sale is my Norton ES2 1949 500cc single, it’s had a full nut and bolt professional restoration carried out approx 5 years ago and has covered 698 miles since, used sparingly for Sunday rides and Classic shows, this ES2 is matching numbers and retains its original registration number. The motorcycle comes with one of its original buff log book and latest V5 in my name…as you can see this motorcycle is in what can only be described as show room condition, pristine aside from maybe odd road going marks, this motorcycle is not purely for show and should be ridden and enjoyed.

The petrol tank has been refinished in non original Light Highland Green complimented by hand painted red/green pinstripes which have also be done to various other parts..mudguards..oil tank etc even the registration plates are hand lettered ( as was the practice at dealerships in the 40s 50s ) the tank has an original Norton Owners Club waterslide. This machine has distinct Agatha Christie art deco feel about it.

These decisions were taken to enhance the overall look of the motorcycle and to make it stand out from the crowd of Black/Silver Nortons, the rear light has also been swapped out from the frankly cheap and nasty generic Lucas item to the much more pleasing Vincent “stop” tail light.

This beautiful motorcycle starts-rides-stops as it should do…it’s incredibly reliable and starts with one or two prods of the kickstart EVERY single time without fail…the engine sounds sweet with no knocks rattles or anything sinister to worry about…it will then ride along with that lovely “thump thump” we all know and love…it’ll click reassuringly through the gears and does a decent job of stopping…in my opinion this year of classic ES2 is still the best type of classic useable motorcycle given it has workable front forks suspension for todays road conditions.
