Smiths chronometric fix

My speedo was very dirty inside glass and trip reset was loose inside case. So the hard bit, tried to remove bezel by all the mean i could find online no luck. So cut a slot in the bezel to remove, part on order £24 with glass and seal. next the even harder bit the trip cable was stopping the case being removed.It is held by a tiny split pin on the shaft, this had to be drilled with a tiny dremmel drill, but 60 years on the shaft had welded it self to the cable. So cut the bugger off case now split. Next the speed indicator needle would not budge so unable to remove the face. I went the a watch shop he let me loan a tool to remove watch hands, i needed to heat shaft end with tip of a hot solder iron to remove. Finally all split down cleaned oiled.Rebuild next (repaint inside case matt white) (outer case satin black) (order new reset shaft and reset cable) (fit new bezel glass and seal ring) Photos to follow of progress. Nice one Thomas, I have exactly the same job to do in the future, the tips and photos will help. My 1957 Dominator 99 blew up in September 1970, it stood outside for 8 years and I have finally started a complete rebuild. I have been soaking the bezel in WD40 and 3 in 1 for 5 months now to no avail, looks like a junior hacksaw job. Keep the photos coming.Dick

Found a great seller on Ebay makes parts for Chrono speedos MJC Products. he is making me a new trip inner shaft and control rod. So when that arrives be ready for more photos.
