Slimline Battery Box

Forums

The threads on my slimline 650ss battery box are stripped. Any suggestions to fix using the original screws?

We ground off the original stuff and tack welded new nuts which we then ground off as needed. And no ,we can't weld normally!.

Back in the "DAY" we welded the suspension back on the Austin Healey using 3 car batteries linked together ,a mole wrench, rubber gloves and some old welding rods.No idea what we used for eye protection, possibly shut eyes!.

On mine. The lower hole had a stripped thread. I drilled the hole larger (12mm), turned a shoulder onto a 5/16" nut (was it Cycle or BSF? - I know it screwed onto the bolt ok) and glued it in from behind the tag.

No lathe? Look up a local model makers club - usually they will know someone who has a small lathe who will help you.

You could try gluing without a shoulder, but I felt there isn't enough area to make a long term repair,  hence turning a shoulder.

Hope this helps,

George
