Am I learning, isn't this bike fitted with an earlier cylinder head? And an earlier timing cover?
Matching Numbers?

On Ebay
Hi Robert, the bke is on Ebay, along with another than has a 650 SS in a Widel-ine plot! I was just looking at the bikes and see if I can spot mix and mix or mix and match! I took my 99 frame to be welded and my other 99 Special frame to be welded too, because some one removed fixing tabs brackets when it was used for presumably, racing! N' guess what the Guy has temporarily disappeared, he assured me, he would be there Wednesday, but NO, Thursday, NO, Friday I couldn't be arsed to go there, till next week now, with my two frames locked in his workshop!
I have ordered a spanner, Cylinder head , from Andover Norton, so apart from rubbing stuff down and finding stuff and finding more stuff I had forgotten about, a Cafe Racer Fibre-glass seat and rear cowl 1960s or 1970s some John Tickle headlamp brackets, I though I might start a list of what I am missing, at least for the 99 build!
Covid-19 and Lock-down is wearing a bit thin so needs must to keep the mind from squirmy periods of self-doubt, somewhere out there is at least a set of brand new old stock 99 con-rods with my name written on them, it is just a question of time!
My Lady friend is Incommunicado, just one thing after another! I have this type of "carbuncle" switch on my headlight, I presume it needs a key?
Picture also not my bike, but I do know Ken Horwood who used to own it!

Lucas prs8 switch. Yes a key…
Lucas prs8 switch. Yes a key, flat spade type, Switch expensive poor pattern ones around. Be vey gentle with switch, plastic thread can strip, Knob securing screw easily lost/damaged.Can be stripped down but very fiddley and explosive..Switch type used on coil bikes but can be used with a mag too .

Pricey!
The keys are usually less than £4. A couple on eBay today for £3.75 and one at £4.50 - including postage. Forget about "Genuine Lucas" as only old keys might be that. Modern "Lucas" is but a shadow of its former self. All far eastern replicas. Ask Al Osborn. That includes coils and switches, although I would expect a new PRS8 to work better than a genuine Lucas that's 50 years old!

Its a slimline ,so it would normally have the later head, I think the timing cover is ok ,my 60 one is the same. But otherwise its not a bad mix, Decent guards, front brake ,bit too much chrome But interesting. Concentrate on getting it set up well. Lots of Nortons are mongrels .I would rather take a close look at your bike than a pristine 650SS.
