Evening all,
My Ex-Interpol Mk3 came with a Canadian warning light control unit so I am presuming that all Mk3 Police bikes had their headlights on when the engines were running (makes sense to me) but the wiring harness appears to be the same as another Mk3 I have, so question is :- Does anyone know if the connections are the same as pictured or do I have a mismatch of items? Also I believe that the ignition switch is supposed to be different on the Canadian (& possibly Interpol) bikes but how different? Again I am presuming that the first "on" switch position has a feed to the control unit to turn on the lights when the engine starts but would that need a different switch or just an extra wire? So if anyone out there knows anything about Canadian/Interpol wiring, would you like to accompany me to the garage please Sir/Madam?
Any advice gratefully received. Non PC Al.

After the first 2000 (approx) MKIII, the wiring harness had the wires present for both conventional "charge warning light" or "headlight on" systems. A different switch, box and use of the correct wires completes the conversion.
The early harness also had 3 fuses that were left out after the upgrade.

Thanks Andy & David
Thanks Andy & David for the info.
Unfortunately my Haynes manual is pre Mk3 but I have just got a NVT one, unfortunately that doesn`t have a wiring diagram in it! Not great but it does have a section on the differences between the two warning light units so that`s a bit clearer now. My ex-Interpol project was last on the road in 1980 so that`s probably when it was decommissioned from Humberside police but it may have been a bit of a spare parts bike as it was incomplete so I`m not sure if everything is original. I have repaired the main part of the harness but the headlight harness looks new and is the same layout as the Lucas branded Wassell one I bought for the other Mk3 I`m working on. Disappointingly the Lucas copy had cloth braiding which the originals never had and the "flecks" in the braiding were even different colours main harness to headlight harness so they`ve gone to a lot of unnecessary effort to make them look wrong! I have removed the cloth braiding as there is normal plastic harness tape wrapping underneath, quite easy on one half but the other had been superglued at the ends so was a real pain to remove, taking care not to damage the wire insulation so probably even made by different suppliers. Anyhows, Neither headlight harnesses have the fuses so I can probably just fit UK warning light control units to both bikes.
Thanks again for your help, Al.

Al,
My Mk3 Interpol came straight from the police (via a used bike sales outlet) and had the UK warning light control unit and ignition switch wiring. However, as all forces had there own requirements, it might have been that yours was a specific force requirement for daytime lights - not great for the alternator when also running other police equipment.
The wiring diagram in the NVT manual and Haynes manual shows both wiring options, so it would be best to refer to that.
