I understand all petrol in Belgium is E10. Is there anywhere one can buy E0? My understanding is that E10 is not suitable for use in a vehicle using a carb?

My information is that all fuel in Belgium is E5 - the only countries who offer E10 is France,Germany and Finland. In these countries E10 is usually marked on the pump. As for vehicles using carbs - I'll leave that one for the real techies!

I just typed into yahoo search: 'E10 petrol in Belgium' and several came back. It appears that this stuff was introduced from 1st January this year.
No doubt just a matter of time before the carbon phobics make this the only choice. No choice! I just want Norton riders to be aware.

The 95 here in Belgium is now E10 but the 'Eurosuper 98' is unchanged (so presumably 5% ?)
That said, most Belgian fuel stinks of ethanol with Total being by far the worst offender.
Esso seems the most predictable and I run 98 with a Miller's fuel treatment just in case.
There are a lot of small garages here selling brands that nobody has ever heard of. I steer clear of them. They buy on price and will sell anything that they can get away with although most of the fiddling seems to go on with diesel.

As far as I am aware, NOBODY suffered from the effects of ethanol last year, riding to, and from, the Italian rally. 10% ethanol is quite suitable for engines with carburettors. Anyway, it is only a weekend rally, anyone paranoid about ethanol can refuel on return (or alternatively, don?t go).

If they had any sense, nobody filled up with E10 last year and best advice is not to do it on purpose in Belgium this year.
It is very difficult to know what problems can be attributed to fuel and there is likely to be a difference between engines that have done some miles with residual protection from earlier fuels and those which have been newly built.
I have to remove quantities of water from the carb of the 16H if I leave it standing with fuel in for more than a week or two (I try not to) I've also destroyed two sets of grease lubricated valve guides in less than 1000 miles. It seems self-evident that modern fuel does not evaporate leaving the lubricity and 'greasiness' of earlier blends. Whether this is due to the ethanol or the other chemicals used in the blend is something that we're not told.
Leaded fuel certainly provided valve stem lubrication and I now use a manganese substitute. In conjunction with plasma-coated G&S valves, so far, so good after 2000 miles...Maybe it's not down to fuel but it seems a strange problem to suddenly start arising in a machine where more than 100,000 were built.
A chap in Real Classic with an open-valve Model 18 had a similar problem. I think it's odds-on that fuel is a factor. I'd rather not have to use it and am angry that the choice has been taken away from me.
