Hi all - I have owned my Mk2A 850 for nearly 22 years on converted it to a single Mk2 Amal about 10 years ago - it took quite some time to get the setup correct but overall I was happy with the setup. Four years ago the engine was rebuilt as a 920 and I've subsequently never been over-whelmed by its performance (even after numerous carb alterations) - a few weeks ago I 'bit the bullet' and fitted a new pair of 32mm Amal Mk1s and my God the difference !!!! - it starts first kick and goes like a scalded cat - major "grin-factor". No doubt things will 'go-off' as the Mk1 monkey-metal wears but in the meantime I'm revelling in the new found performance - it's like riding a different bike.
I'll be putting all of the single MK2 Amal parts in the classified section soon (various bodies, jets, manifolds etc.) if any of you are interested.
Cheers

Hi Allan - ref re-sleeving carbs - try Richard Darby at 3D Motorcycles Tel: Workshop 01902 426051 - Mobile 07713 316095. I met Richard at Beezumph last weekend and he asked whether I needed some carbs resleeving (I didn't - he was confusing me with somebody else - - - but his question implied that he offered such a service).
Cheers,

I'm beginning to think that a new pair of Mark 1 concentrics is what I need for my 850 Mk3, in order to sort-out its erratic running once and for all. Mine are pretty well worn and must be contributing to the problem. There used to be firms who could bore-out the body of the carb and then fit a brass-sleeved slide, but I've not seen this service advertised for a while.
BTW, thanks for the 'unsolicited' post. I find it really useful when members let everyone know when things work, rather than just asking for help with problems. I'm a member of the MT Riders Club and the forum has a 'Top Tips' section where members can post details of solutions they have discovered etc. Perhaps we should have one on this website!
