Big end replacement 1962 model 50

Forums

Is replacing the big end on a 1962 model 50 a job left for professionals, or has anyone completed the task,   David

It’s a simple enough job, but it pays to have a press to hold the wheels when undoing and tightening the nuts,  and a dial gauge and vee blocks for checking the alignment of the assembly, also a heavy copper hammer to belt it into alignment. (Or a hardwood post to hit the wheels on).

Depending on the big end assembly, you may need to lap the sleeve after it’s pressed into the con rod, so you’ll need access to a lathe to make the lap. “Tuning for speed” by Phil Irving is a good book to have for this sort of work.
