After stripping the head off my 600 dominater I found some damage to the spigot’s I was wondering if I flush down to the face would that have a marked effect on the running I don’t really want to replace the liners as the bores are ok still std ?

What exactly is the damage?

My experience is that without spigots you will need to use an eyeleyed head gasket as a minimum.  My 650 (a mongrel) came with non spigots barrels but with the small recess in the head. It has proved to be reasonably reliable once I sorted out the gasket. There were 'inserts' available once upon a time that you could fit in the head where the spigots used to be, but they seem to be a marmite solution in that some users have no issues, while others the distress of them breaking up in use and wrecking the head and pistons.

Hi Gerry,

Gasket with eyelets is same as gasket with fire rings on it. My bad - was using an old industrial term for them.  I meant a gasket with metal rings around the cylinder holes.

Does anyone know where I can get new liners fitted in the north of the country I find it hard to believe given our industrial background I can’t seem to find anywhere.

Hello Gerry. I would imagine that the route you are contemplating going for, liners and all that that entails would be in the region of £400.00 plus.

If it were me, I'd go for the eyeleted gasket first. 

You will need to run the gasket in (low throttle setting) for about ten miles come home and torque the head down to whatever your manual states reset the tappets again go for another ten miles or so and repeat the torque tappets procedure once more.

If it works you can spend your saving on something at a timing of your choice, if not you will only blow the head gasket as it is being subjected to the fierceness of the combustion flame, then you can seriously contemplate lining the barrels.

I don't know what milage you do or your throttle openings, for most of you riding but I should imagine the method above should sustain a fair amount of milage with considerate abuse.

 I've had a couple of similar jobs done in recent years. Lancaster engines have been accurate, prompt and helpful.
