Model 88 deluxe

Forums

Want to know the correct rear mudguard for my  1955 dominator 88. My model has the separate dashboard but came with the incorrect rear mudguard not even sure it was for a Norton. So does it have a one piece or the two piece mudguard? Photos would be good. Cheers

This may get you started.

My parts list for 55 show a single piece mudguard, for the 1959 it is a two piece.

I have a 57 88 and there's a 2 piece fitted, I'm hoping it's right but don't know

Hi Thomas, the no. plate rear light unit part of the rear mudguard is hinged as opposed to being unbolted & removable. p.m. me for a photo. Regards Neil.

I saw a rear mudguard on eBay this week looked pretty close too what I think a two piece should look like. Anyway won the item and it came today. Happy as looks well made and very light rust. Seller thinks it a copy or never been fitted I agree it’s never been on a bike. Not too sure about the crease in the rear maybe it’s to clear the swing arm or frame? Anyway can fettle it to fitDominator 88 mudguards

I had a 1955 88 and it definitely has the one-piece with a hinged tail.  I now have a 1959 99 which has a detachable tail piece.  The mudguards are a different shape too, especially the tail piece, but it's not important if it's not for Concours.  The genuine mudguards have a date stamp on the inside.  My 1959 one is "Jul 59" and I have a N.O.S. tailpiece dated "Jun 59".

Because my old read mudguard was in a rusty condition I bought a repro many years ago from Bantam John at a Netley Marsh jumble.  I needed it for chroming, as per my bike ex-works.  I bought a new repro front guard form Fred Williams at a Stafford show too for the same reason.  I st ill have both old guards which I will refurbish and sell one day!
