Back in the "DAY" we welded…
Back in the "DAY" we welded the suspension back on the Austin Healey using 3 car batteries linked together ,a mole wrench, rubber gloves and some old welding rods.No idea what we used for eye protection, possibly shut eyes!.

I used araldite
On mine. The lower hole had a stripped thread. I drilled the hole larger (12mm), turned a shoulder onto a 5/16" nut (was it Cycle or BSF? - I know it screwed onto the bolt ok) and glued it in from behind the tag.
No lathe? Look up a local model makers club - usually they will know someone who has a small lathe who will help you.
You could try gluing without a shoulder, but I felt there isn't enough area to make a long term repair, hence turning a shoulder.

We ground off the original stuff and tack welded new nuts which we then ground off as needed. And no ,we can't weld normally!.
