Started planning a trip to the Austrian Rally in May 2013, assuming it's going ahead. Didn't make it this year (bike not finished), or last year (problems with bike). I was then going to go straight on to theFrench NOC 2013 Int. rally, but have now changed my mind and will be travelling from Austria to the Britti Rally in Finland via Denmark and Sweden, and obviously other countries along the way. It's a British bike only rally.Any body else going?

Dave is obviously refering to results obtainedthroughhis own mechanical expertise on his 750 Commando. Will it ever see the light of day again?
Enough of the banter, if anybody is thinking about joining me I've estimated a round trip of approx. 4,000 miles (rear tyre wear could be an issue), and the routenow possibly includes ferry from Sassnitz, northGermany to Trelleborg, Sweden and then maybe a ferry across the Baltic to Finland or maybe around the top of the Baltic to Finland, depending on time, weather, money etc etc. Could be away for upto four weeks.Does anybody now of any useful Moose/Bear deterents?

Hi Simon, this sounds an awesome trip, I presume you still plan to end up at the International rally in France? Will you be camping on-route between rally's?

Alright Alan, depends on dates etc, Austria is mid to late May, France is 6th June and the Britti is 14 - 16thJune, so I should be able to do the Int. and go on to the Britti. I feel obliged to go to Austria having promised Roland and Arnol, whilst chatting to them at the Classic bike night in Peel at this years Manx.I will be camping en-route. Fancy stretching the Commandos legs?

Actually just realised the Int. is 6-10th June so dosen't leave much time to get to Finland for the 14th. It's possible but I'd like to have a spare day or two. Have to wait and see when the Austrian rally is before finalising things.

Simon, do you know the dat…
Simon, do you know the date of the Britti Rally this year? and is it always same dates each year? With the 2014International rally being held inBremen, North Germany mid August it would be good if the Britti rally was early August in 2014. That would make a great trip, don't you think? Maybe I'm planning too far ahead!!!
This year I will be camping in Belgium onthe last weekend of May (with another club)so will head to Austria from there, then to the International in France. I will be awaythree weekends, about 18 days. A nice long holiday.

Hi Alan, the Britti Ralli…
Hi Alan, the Britti Ralli is usuallyaroundmid June so I assume next year won't be much different. There is a web site www.brittimotoristit.net. Depending how much time you havenext years Britti and International would fit together. This yearis the 40th, unfortunately I can only fit in so much but next year the Britti at least is a definite. Booked up for the Manx this week, roll onSummer!

Thanks Simon, for the Britti rally sitelink. Inever found it when I was searching for info the other day. The 2013 Brittirally will be the weekend after our NOC International rally. To attend the Britti as wellI'd beawayforfour weekend rallies on the trot. Not sure I could afford to do that, but it'll be nice to dream. I'm confident my Commando would do it OK. All I need is a lottery win.
Regards, Alan

After travelling between C…
After travelling between Calais and Aachen (250 miles of flat, straight motorway, in torrential rain) en-route to this years Austrian rally, I'm going off the idea of a similar journey of 550 - 650 miles to the north German coast ferry ports to get a ferry to Sweden. An option is the Harwich ferry to Ebsjerg, Denmark, £500 return/person, possibly cheaper with two people sharing a cabin. Another option is Harwich to the Hook and then approx 420 - 520 miles of flat, straight roads to north Germany. At the moment I'm favouring the Harwich - Ebsjerg route, any body else want to go? The Britti rally is in Finland, British bikes only, other makes have to park off site I think, usually mid June. Round trip from Harwich of between 3,000 - 4,000 miles.
Simon.

Sounds like fun, Simon. For moose and bear deterents I usually carry a side by side 12 ga. coach gun, but that would probably not be allowed in Europe, so pepper spray and a quick motor will have to do.

Come on Simon, you know there's not enough petrol and oil in the world to make that journey feasable on a Commando, you need a Rotary! or maybe not.
