My lads have bought me a Gerbing heated underjacket and a wireless controler ,ever the optimist I'm fitting it to my coil ignition 12v 60 99 . At the moment its connected directly to the battery. It would be better if it worked through the ampmeter so I can at least know when I'm about to go up in smoke. Any thoughts on the shortest wiring route to get incandescent!!.

Seems straight forward Robert...mount the socket in the middle of the handlebars and take a short wire to the opposite side of the ammeter that feeds the battery. Feed it into the headlamp shell via the big grommet at the bottom...load of space through this.....To mount the socket (it's just a small in-line power jack isn't it?.... you could, at the most simplest, hold the jack in position with a ratchet type plastic cable tie. Nice and handy there...I've looked at their site but unbelievably they don't provide power consumption for any items of their range....most odd. I also note they have wearable Lithium power packs so perhaps your birthday present is all ready sorted....
PS...if it is better to have it feeding behind you, the feed wire connected to the stop light switch is always live and registers the discharge on the ammeter...so you just need to extend this to a convenient position..

HI Les and Mike,At present i have the power lead between tank and seat as its close to the plug on the jacket and the loose lead can be tucked in between seat and tank when parked. The hard wired controller/reciever lives in a pocket in the jacket. As this would be fiddly to use on the move I have a wireless transmitter box (about the same size as a slim box of matches) which has 2 knobs to adjust the heat on the jacket /gloves/ boot insole /leggins, all of which are availiable.The transmitter will mount on the bars between the bar mounts.The jacket has a max consumption 77 watts which would fry you if used above 10 degrees ambiant.I doubt I will need more than 40 watts. .The transmitter has no wiring and is powered by a 10 year blipper type battery. It also remembers the last setting for you. Polarity not any problem. Its a bit pricey and it feels like I've had my pockets picked by Robin Hood. Bob (Friar) Tuck.

As its down to snow today…
As its down to snow today I thought it a good test day. Wearing the recommended thin T shirt under the Gerbing and my Hein Garrick jacket without its liner Ifound the gerbing (with its Thinsulate construction) warm anyway,turning it on within a few seconds I was roasting even on medium setting ,strewth!, need to read the instructions,(which I never do).The ampmeter went further accross on the plus side than its ever been, must get the feed through the ampmeter to show whats happening. Also can't figure out why the old 99 is flying ,feels like a 650SS,but I haven't done anything special ,why am I worrying??.

Cold, dense air will make…
Cold, dense air will make your engine produce more power which explains why it's going so well.
On a 99, cold, damp air will give you carb icing as often as not. Well, it does with mine. Black smoke, stuck throttle. Cured by stopping and letting the engine heat melt the ice from the carb.
I've used heated grips for years - the best accessory ever!

Looks like the best way to be able to see what the electrical balance is would be to wire the neg supply direct from the center tapping of the rectifier(with a fuse) which is only connected up to the battery when the ignition is on,also any remaining charge will then show on the ampmeter. Wiring from the stoplight no use as its unswitched on the dommys and does not go thro the meter.The rectifier is also close to the earth connection of the jacket.Most of the current used will not have to go thro the tired old PSR8. Perhaps Al Oz will comment?. If I had the choice I would buy the Gerbing without the sleeves or another make with half the power.
