Hi there
I have a 1973 Mk1 Commando with engine and frame matching numbers. 304976 build date 6/73.
I have just noticed the Gear box has 304975 stamped on it .
I believe the machine to be original with 9000 miles.
If I send a application to the records they confirm engine and frame Nos, will they also confirm gearbox number???
or does the owner of the 304975 or 304977 commando have a gearbox with 304976???
also Im a new member and love the site
cheers

I was under the assumption…
I was under the assumption that they should be matching numbers also.
But if it did have a replacement gearbox, what would be the odds of a gearbox number being the previous bike assembled.
Did they stamp Nos on the parts before or after assembly ?
Did they pick the gearbox / Motor / Frame off a converyor already stamped ?
Did the US market assemble bikes from crates or were they delivered as completed bikes ?
This dos'nt make the bike any less, as it is running like a dream and I love it.
Im just interested in digging a bit more to find out history.
Sending in a records search to find out more.
cheers
Paul

I can only assume that all three numbers should match, I have a later commando and all three, frame, engine and gearbox all have the same number
Thanx paul
